Meshmixer is one of the easiest tools for editing STL files. You can do a lot of creative stuff with it and one of them is making low poly surfaces for your STL/OBJ files.

But sometimes you still need high poly for precission shape in 3D printed object like curved turbine blade, pelton turbine bucket. the process need longer time. If we convert holow object into solid, sometime the sharp edge is not reproduced perfectly, like corroded plate surface.
