Automotive Industry Trends

Hello everyone I'm currently a year into my endeavor of trying to create a vehicle repair software for car enthusiasts and mechanic shops that gives technical data about a vehicle and a 3D view of parts and components. The automotive industry has a very high barrier of entry with big brand car manufacturers holding tightly to their data, I wanted to get on here and ask if anyone had any advice that could help accomplish my goal. Right now what it looks like is I'm going to have to purchase a scanner and scan these cars one by one. I'm open to advice, new ideas, and even shifting my goals towards something related that could produce better yields.
