...and what happened with Nvidia??? Where are my Quadro cards? These RTX vid cards seem like builds from gaming cards. Anyone try these...
The Quadro cards were always just Geforce cards with either hardware locks, software locks, or both. Same exact chipset. They are still doing this today with "RTX" cards being the certified "professional" cards, and "GeForce RTX" being the gaming cards. The hardware is identical, but the money grab comes from "certification" on RTX cards for specific 3D applications. They deliberately use hardware ID to prevent a GeForce RTX user from being able to install RTX drivers and "trick" their system into thinking they have the more expensive "professional" card.
Ask any SolidWorks user about "Realview" and you'll quickly discover that the vast majority of us are using GeForce cards, and doing a quick registry edit to "trick" SolidWorks into thinking we have the Quadro or RTX equivalent which unlocks the live rendering features.
Like it or not, the gaming industry is what propels the advancements in consumer hardware. Not professional applications. And those buying the "professional" hardware are being deliberately ripped off.
