Looking for some help designing an intake for a ford 4.9l/300 intake using the stock EFI style intake preferably but let’s hear everyone’s ideas
Getting it designed in cad I’m trying to build a prototype reusing a efi intake I’m very new to using cad
Designing a carbureted intake for a 300 inline 6 I’m very new to this im a machinist
what information do you have? 2D drawing, photos with some dimension references? often pieces like this, the ideal is to have the same one physically to be able to draw.
How do you plan on fabricating the manifold? The design need to focus on the manufacturing methods. Don’t just design something and then try to figure out a way to make it. Design For Manufacturing…
Initially evaluating the image that I researched on the internet, this collector is forged and machined later, it is not an unusual process for the application itself.
we are talking about a Co-Design of an item that has already been manufactured.
Now draw without dimensions, information etc. (this is complicated)
dimensions, angles, product wall (thickness) etc. needs to be well analyzed, in this the ideal is to have the part in hand to be able to extract this information, with the help of a caliper, profile projector etc.
But with the piece it already gives you a direction to make the sketch of the product.
Very doubtful that's forged. That would require a lot of difficult internal machining.
Probably investment or sand cast then machined. Likely a lost foam investment casting process. That's a well established process for intake and exhaust manifolds.
You are correct Bob.
The ideal for this product would be Casting with subsequent machining process.
