I do some structural optimizing for weight and strength in regards to UAS chassis. What kind of materials?

Dude! I am working on this exact design for a class at Embry-Riddle.

out of curiosity, what do you guys think would be a good design? Quadcopter design? Coaxial rotor design? Tandem rotor design like a Chinook?

these are some coaxial main rotor blades I had made out of carbon fiber.

this was my first concept idea. simple design.

For tandem rotors the mixing is super complicated and probably not worth the effort. I fly the 47F. Dude(s) was a genius that designed it.

A simpler way to control it might be a xy tilting head, gravity will do the rest . No need for swashplates or mixing.

Another method would be underactuated props as pennstate demonstrated and Alta X uses.

Also slight dihedral blade angle around 5° can both increase stability and forward speed
