Usually when you want to "clear" out fasteners or hardware the best technique is to use "Simplified Reps". What that does is allows for the memory allotted to be used for other things. Layering On & Off although it might help in the load to the GPU is not "unloading" the CPU. I would not recommend using layers to isolate hardware...but it could be done. You would build a rule that would be specific and unique to your hardware part / assy files.

Thank you Carey-You probably are correct in suggesting Rep's. I'll have to experiment with that method a little more.

I was able to build a rule that searched out particular fasteners by using wildcards in the name such as *4-40* or *1-4-20*, & was able to place those on a layer I created in the assembly, so that works for now. I know I can select the parts from the model tree (or on screen), but that's a lot of pickin'. As far as making it work when assembling new fasteners into the assembly, I haven't figured that out yet.

I'll continue to experiment with both methods & see what works for me,
