There is a big movement going on for 'New Space' which is the continuation of Space Exploration, but also an expanding beyond what most people use satellites for ; namely GPS.

The next bid thing for consumer space is global digital connectivity for voice, video, and data via cellular communications.

What i have seen in my lifetime is that just like back in the 1970's that CB radio and Ham Radio has ushered in terrestrial wireless phone communications. Now GPS is ushering in global digital communications.
